The Meaning of Rescue

I have not done much with the other rescue I am part of lately as I just do not have the time or the room in my house with the summer sleepover dogs, but this past week they needed a home check done so I met with some people interested in adopting Calley. She is a dog who was available for adoption through the Canadian Chihuahua Rescue & Transport. Super nice couple who I am happy to say were approved and Calley went to her new home this past weekend.

I had a lengthy visit with the couple and our discussion reminded me of a poem someone sent me about rescue. I have been bad in the past and paid for a dog from a breeder, but I can honestly say I will never do that again, knowing now that just because a dog is a rescue does not mean they are bad dogs, usually just stupid owners. My two rescue girls are fantastic, better dogs than money can buy.

The Meaning of Rescue

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed
All nicely tucked in my warm bed,I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is much to carry -
So much to forget

Hmmm . . . Yes, there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack loneliness, heartache and loss;
And there by my leash hides fear and shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me.
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?

I pray that you do -
I'm so tired you see.
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

:( OMG so sad- well you hit the nail on the head. People don't always understand how tough it can be for these babies, or how much devotion one has to give to help turn these puppies around. I've had my 'pound puppy' for almost 3 years- he's a permanent family member, of course! And to think he stayed in the shelter 6 months(and almost got put down) all because he was black. We love him so much.
Thank you for your hard work.
